Criminology and Psychology BA (Hons) & Foundation Year

BA (Hons) Criminology & Psychology with Foundation Year is a 4‑year undergraduate programme designed to build your academic confidence and skills before progressing into core criminology and psychology modules. This multidisciplinary course combines insight into criminal behaviour and the psychology of human actions, giving you a strong foundation for careers in criminal justice, social services, or psychological research.

COURSE OVERVIEW

This programme begins with a Foundation Year to prepare you for university-level study through modules on academic readiness, social understanding, and research skills. Afterward, you explore criminology and psychology together, examining societal responses to crime, behaviour theory, forensic psychology, cyberpsychology, and mental health issues. Through a blend of theory and real-world application, you’ll gain the knowledge and analytical skills needed to understand why people behave as they do and how the criminal justice system functions in modern society.

Structure:

  • Foundation Year: Preparing for University Success, Exploring the Social World, Academic Skill Development, Social Justice, Future Planning, Investigation Project.

  • Level 4: Introduction to Criminology & Psychology, Social Psychology, Crime, Media & Culture, Criminal Justice System, Developmental Psychology.

  • Level 5: The Prison, Personality & Intelligence, Youth Crime & Justice, Crimes of the Powerful, Research Methods, Forensic Psychology.

  • Level 6: Counselling & Mental Health, Victimology, Cyberpsychology, Professional Practice Case Study, Final Research Project.
    Campus Locations: Multiple UK campus options including London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Nottingham, and Newcastle.
    Assessment: Coursework, essays, reports, presentations, portfolios, case studies, and research projects — no traditional exams.

Course Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above or 45 credits at Level 2 (or equivalent).
  • Mature applicants with relevant work experience may be considered with a CV and references.
  • English proficiency (for international students): IELTS 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in any component (or equivalent recognised English qualification).
  • Strong motivation for study in criminology and psychology, demonstrated through personal statement (if required).
  • Access to a laptop/PC and good internet for blended learning.
